Description

A stocky, middle-aged man with the odd blue-on-violet eyes and platinum hair combed into a wispy mess that would indicate the blood of Old Valyria, this fellow usually bears a jolly expression, and the softness of comfortable living. Of merely average height, he has a habit of gesticulating wildly when speaking.

He is currently wearing the robes of a Septon of the Faith of the Seven, and is clearly here as their servant to bring a message. A message of merriment and joy.

Background

A scion of House Celtigar of Claw Isle, Rufus was a younger nephew of the sitting Lord who showed no great ambitious to do anything but live off the modest wealth of his name. That is not to say he was a greatly idle sort, but preferred to fritter away his time in leisurely pursuits although dabbled heavily in scholarship. The latter is something he has quite a gift for, even if he squandered his time and is probably not as learned as he could have been.

This was not lost on Rufus' parents, who had figured the best thing to do with the lad (who had already developed an appetite for the 'finer' things in life, this includes drinking to excess, and fathering no less than 3 children who would later bear the name 'Waters' whose mothers had to be quietly paid off) was to send him to Oldtown, where he would study at the Citadel. They had figured that his scholarly bent would be encouraged here, and keep him out of trouble. They were not quite exactly wrong, but he managed to get in more trouble with the wrong people. A minor scandal with a young woman of House Tyrell was going to explode until again, the family was paid off. House Celtigar is well-to-do, but their coffers are not endless.

One of the things he is bright with was the scholarly history of the Faith of the Seven. Some family favors were called in, and Rufus was brought to Oldtown at the Seat of the Faith where he had a very obvious choice, to study further and eventually accept the vows of a Septon of the Faith of the Seven. Or be disowned. Rufus Celtigar was many things, but not this dumb. It has been a strange stroke of fate (or some might say, pulling strings of his own) that has resulted in him travelling back to the Reach, to serve Oldtown's flock and guide them through the dark places to the Path of the Gods. He wouldn't have it any other way.

Quirks

  • A plague upon his house - House Celtigar will likely remember him favorably, if at all. He was nothing but trouble.
  • Gluttonous - A man of worldly appetites is probably a poor fit for a Septon
  • Gross-humored - If he could get away with making references in High Valyrian about the bounty of a woman's bosom in his flock, during a sermon, he would.
  • Likes to party - What, don't you?
  • Not-so-devout - You didn't think he really believed in this nonsense deep down, did you? That's not what he's in it for.
  • Wealth: Comfortable - Thank the Gods House Celtigar didn't bankrupt themselves covering for his escapades.
