Loryn..Andolin..

A day or two later Loryn Tyrell and Andolin Stark are back in the forests in search of the beast. Knowing it can't have come far after the injuries they inflicted on him. Both young men have taken extra precautions this time, protecting their horses with padded leather and themselves with iron breastshields. It makes moving a bit harder, but will stop the beast's claws, should it come near. Loryn is relying on Andy's hunting skills to find the place again and thus their prey.

The hunters have stalked their monstrous prey through the glens and dales of the open Reach, the young Tyrell now on his second steed. The wounded Beast moves more slowly than it had before, and though the art is lost on Loryn, Andolin's woodcraft at last brings the pair to a secluded orchard of wild apple trees. Though still green and months from harvest, the grotesque shape of the great beast can be glimpsed moving among the trees, its serpentine neck lifted to devour the raw fruits with a long, black tongue.

Loryn exchanges a look with Andolin and he nods, having understood the idea they had discussed earlier. Loryn waits until Andy has taken up a good position at the far end of the grove with his bow at the ready, then nudges his horse forward into a gallop to use the moment of surprise and attack the beast before it can react.

<COMBAT> Loryn attacks Questing Beast with Broadsword - Moderate wound to Neck.
<COMBAT> Andolin attacks Questing Beast with Hunting Bow - Light wound to Chest (Reduced by Armor).

The beast turns its long neck, spotted hide still marked with the streaks of black blood where their last encounter had bled the great monster. As Loryn charges, once again the Questing Beast bolts, turning to flee with an uneven gallop.

A bellowing bleat, entirely unlike any sound in the hunters' experience, is given at the fresh wounds as the twenty foot tall beast seeks to wind through trees to attain the open grasslands, lashing backward with its hind hooves at its pursuer.

Loryn manages to strike a good blow at the beast's neck and the bleat and move makes his horse rear and jump, trying to get away. But Loryn tries to keep it under control and in pursuit before the beast can escape again.

Loryn manages to control his horse and it chases after the beast, despite a minor kick that sees it rear again in pain but not run away. The Tyrell casts a brief glance towards the Stark to make sure that he's alright, then gives chase, sword raised to strike another blow.

<COMBAT> Andolin attacks Questing Beast with Hunting Bow - ARMOR on Right Arm stops the attack!
<COMBAT> Questing Beast attacks Loryns Horse with Bludgeon - Light wound to Chest.
<COMBAT> Loryns Horse passes.
<COMBAT> Loryn attacks Questing Beast with Broadsword but Questing Beast DODGES!
<FS3> Loryn rolls Riding: Good Success.

With the benefit of experience, Loryn anticipates the kick and between horsemanship and light barding, the steed is spared the worst of the fleeing beast's violence. The chase carries on as the Tyrell must duck to avoid a facefull of branches which whip back in the monster's wake.

<COMBAT> Loryn attacks Questing Beast with Broadsword - Serious wound to Chest (Reduced by Armor).
<COMBAT> Andolin attacks Questing Beast with Hunting Bow - Moderate wound to Right Hand (Reduced by Armor).
<COMBAT> Questing Beast attacks Loryns Horse with Bludgeon and MISSES!
<COMBAT> Questing Beast has been KO'd!

The bloodied beast stumbles on its awkward stride as an arrow takes it in the foreleg, as it struggles to rise again, Loryn's sword takes it halfway up the length of its neck, landing between two great bones with a gruesome *chunk*. While far too large to be wholly beheaded, the monster collapses to the ground with the sudden finality of a puppet with cut strings.

Loryn exhales deeply, but he still waits for a while, bloodied sword in hand, his eyes on the beast. Because as everyone except the Dornish knows, it's better to make sure that a beast is REALLY dead and won't suddenly leap up again for another attack. This gives Andy time to approach, bow still in hand as well. "Is it dead?", he asks shakily and Loryn nods. "I think so… yes… we…" - GULP! - "We've done it…."
