Maidenday Gardens - Starry Street

The Maidenday Gardens are perhaps the loveliest of Oldtown's public gardens. The gracious footpaths are paved in white stone and lined with with flowering trees and rosebushes bearing pink and white blossoms. The beds alongside them are thickly planted with narcissus, lily-of-the-valley, trilliums and wood anemones. An occasional arbor arches over the path, supporting a clematis or wisteria, a virgin's bower or a honeysuckle. Most of the flowers are pale or blushing, but splashes of bright yellows, purples, and blues are not uncommon. True red is all that is absent. In the evenings little lamps hang from slim iron posts to light the paths.

There are benches here and there, and pavilions enshrouded with flowering vines. There are also shrines to The Maiden throughout the garden. They feature statues of stone or wood, some painted, some plain, some large, some small, some dressed in real clothing. All are beautiful and all have a little altar before them. While this is a public garden the rest of the year, on Maiden's Day it is closed to all but maidens. Those girls who feel the ritual at the Sept is not enough to express their piety may, under the watchful eyes of the Septas who maintain this place, light candles at these altars and sing more of their songs of innocence.

Idly walking along the paths of the Maidenday Gardens is a well-dressed man in sky blue and white, standing out sharply compared to the surroundings. Wearing a slightly tinted yellow tunic with a sky blue doublet over that, and medium blue pants and cloth shoes matching the pants is Lucamore Arryn with his customary cape hanging from one shoulder and covering the left half of his torso from the collar to the waist that is sky blue in color with white embroidery along the edge, pinned by the sigil of House Arryn. He is flanked by a couple House Arryn guards. He seems to be taking his time and enjoying the sights and maybe a bit of people watching as well.

Another figure, already in the gardens, and in the same colors in a twist of fate, strolls under a set of flowering trees. A gown of blue samite trimmed with silver in the shades of House Arryn hugs Seryna Arryn's tempting figure, the cut modest but still highlighting pleasant curves. The bright azure of the sky above the Vale happens to show off her Tyrell coloring well, caramel and chocolate colored locks that are secured beneath a fillet of gold and in a simple plait behind, hazel eyes flashing with a bright golden green as she examines blossoming flowers. There are no guards following her, but a lady-in-waiting in service to House Arryn accompanies her close by as both companion and chaperone, watching over her spotless reputation with especial vigilance today so it would seem.

Coming upon an attractive lady in the gardens Lucamore approaches casually and says, "Just when I thought the gardens couldn't grow more beautiful surroundings." offering a charming smile and bowing his head formally. He then adds, "Surprising to see you here Lady Seryna."

"Is it surprising?" Seryna looks up and flashes Lucamore her most winning smile, and it might be impressive for all that, a flash of white teeth beneath plush lips. "Lady Jeyne has been interested in seeing House Arryn make a few connections here in Oldtown…I am sure you have heard. Of course Harrold and Raymun were quick to heed here, you know how interested they both are in serving the Lady, and the family. And every household needs a woman to run it, and so they brought me. I prefer the climate here to that of the Eyrie, and that of the rest of the Vale in general, though Harrold gets cross when I say so…thinks it disloyal. Still I am a southerner by birth. A creature of warm air and bright gardens, and so I am happy for the change of climate however brief." She tilts her head at him, studying him momentarily, as if to size him up.

Lucamore nods and says, "Of course, we all serve Lady Arryn. A southern flower certainly belongs in a garden, I must say the warmth and gardens only accentuates your beauty my dear cousin, and just when i thought I couldn't have been more jealous of one of my cousins then on your wedding day." smiling broadly. A bit fo a honey tongue, but then he is known to be a bit of a charmer and a flirt. If of course there is anything I can do to help our Lady Arryn's efforts be sure to let me know, I will be all to happy to help while I am in Oldtown."

"Of course, we all do. Selflessly I am sure. Is that not so, Lord Lucamore?" Seryna's voice is honeyed too, but there's a bit if sting to it. Like a bee maybe, but they were speaking of gardens were they not? "You flatter me, my dear good-cousin. I am undeserving." A few steps bring her closer to him across the garden floor, perhaps to encourage his flirtation. "You look well yourself I'm quite sure, I had no idea you were jealous of your cousin on my wedding day. I do recall what a fine dancer you were though. As for helping House Arryn's efforts, I'm sure if we all pool our resources together we'll soon be well connected in the city. I am told that there is trouble between the locals and the Dornish. Do you get on with them well, the Dornish? They've been heard saying a few disrespectful things about the Vale…I wonder if Lady Jeyne would be displeased…"

Lucamore says, "I am still learning things myself, I've only been here a few days." He then offers the crook of his arm to lead her through the gardens as they continue to speak, "As to your beauty, rest assured there is no such thing as undeserving. As to my own jealousy, why wouldn't I be? It isn't my place to disrupt my cousin's life by trying to steal the bride, it is doubtful to lead to a beneficial outcome." offering another charming smile.

The arm that is offered her is taken, that Seryna might stroll with him for companionable conversation. "I have a feeling you praise the beauty of all that you come across, dear cousin. I will consider myself flattered and yet not in the least singled out." Her voice edges towards the amused, and she tilts her head at him yet again, sending that braid in a rope down her back to tease towards the small of it. "No though, I suppose stealing a bride from your own kin would not lead to much benefit at all, you were wise to consider the potential recourse of your actions. Are you here then to seek out a more appropriate match? Have you had any luck? I've many Tyrell nieces, though I /have/ promised Harrold that I'd make a few choice introductions as well."

Lucamore says, "It is among the reasons I have come yes." as he leads Seryna along, "I doubt there are many that could be considered more appropriate then yourself, but we all have our burdens to bear. I would be grateful for any aid you could provide me. As to seeking out candidates of my own, I fear not. As I've previously said I've only been in town a few days I'm still trying to find a more suitable home then the innI am staying in which is a greater priority for me right now."At the talk of Harrold he shrugs and says, "Now you are making me wish I had come sooner, if Harrold is being given the superior selection of available ladies, but there is only so much one can do I suppose."

Seryna laughs lightly. "Ah, that is what I hear hmm? That when my brother Lord Tyrell was seeking out a match with House Arryn he made an…unusual selection in my husband Raymun. Harrold has made the same comment, though one wonders why. He /was/ married himself at the time anyway, though his poor wife died soon after in childbirth. Poor frail thing. I've given Raymun a sweet little son myself, but not all women are so hardy." She's clearly bragging, tilting her chin high when she speaks of her little boy. "We all have our burdens to bear. I suppose you and I will merely have to settle for being good friends, won't we." A pat on his arm that might be considered comforting, or amused, or merely teasing. "Well Harrold is my good-brother, we are closer kin. Though perhaps you can convince me to give you the superior selection. I'm persuadable. As for staying in an inn, there is always Moon's Nest Manse, where we've set up the Arryn household here in the city. Harrold is the master of the house as it were, but I'm sure he would welcome you with the hospitality kinship affords if you asked him. And I keep it running very smoothly."

Lucamore nods and says, "I'm sure you do. If there is one thing that is superior to your beauty it is your mind. You will have to introduce me to your son sometime. Truth be told the queerness you mentioned about the betrothal is as much to blame for my jealousy as the beauty I lost out on the chance to have."He then offers a soft smile and adds, "On to something better for conversation then regrets however. I would certainly submit to anything to improve my chances over those of Harrold, he may be your brother, but am I not the more respectable an influential choice?" As he leans in a bit closer, as though sharing a conspiracy more then anything else, "What would it take to earn your favor in selecting the second best choices in noble ladies?" offering a charming smile.

"High praise indeed. It is not often that Westerosi women are admired for their wits as well as their beauty or their bloodlines. Most men are happy to have something fine to look at and a good house to match with, they don't require much else. As for my match with Raymun…my brother had his reasons, even if I am not privy to them. He is a good man though, kind and generous, and as much an Arryn as any other. Pity perhaps that he is not the elder brother, else he would have as good a chance as being named heir as Harrold does. Or as you do." Here her words are once more light, banter in tone even if the words are weighted ones. "Are you the more respectable and influential choice? I'm not certain that is true, my lord. In fact…I might be certain it isn't. I'll require proof I think. Of the benefit of doing something so impressive for you." Her smile is more than charming…it's expectant.

Lucamore says, "Few know what happens in all of the Vale then I my lady, I have the coin to get what needs to be done when it is within my power to do so. As to my respectability aside from perhaps a bit of harmless flirtation, which is hardly a sin for a young nobleman who is not even betrothed. I have my share of tragedy such as my own brothers murder by that damned Maester. As to attractiveness, I have reason to view it as a lower priority. After all my former betrothed most agreed was beautiful beyond words and she went off and grew with child before our wedding plans were finalized." clear hatred enters his words as he speaks of the Maester and his former betrothed, though who can really blame him?

"I have no shortage of coin myself, nor does Harrold, nor Raymun…" Seryna points out. "Connections in the Vale are useful…yet if one is to gain power now, the power that /I/ want to attach myself to, it isn't just the connections within the Vale that are needed, it is the connections outside the Vale…connections to the rest of the Seven Kingdoms, and to King's Landing. I'm impressed, don't get me wrong. Entirely convinced though…mmm…not yet. You'll have to show me, dear good-cousin. Show me what you can do. Show me what you can provide for me, what wheels you can turn. What baubles you can dangle before my eyes, what doors you can open. I'll consider then, what I can do for you." She does observe the hatred in his voice with an almost casual interest, and by now has been walked almost towards the garden gates. "I will mention to my husband and good-brother that I saw you though. We'll have you for a visit soon." Once more her eyes flick up and down, almost as if sizing the man up, and her lady-in-waiting is quick at her heels.

Lucamore nods and says, "I believe I understand you now, though such thins are best not discussed in the company of others. As to meeting with my cousins, I would enjoy such, and it may give me the opportunity to discuss available housing." As they reach the gates he leans over to offer a friendly kiss on the cheek, as long as she allows it of course as he also uses the closeness to whisper something to her. Hesitating a moment before pulling away, likely to give her the chance to respond if she so wishes.

A kiss on the cheek given and one returned in kind, close enough that an airy perfume rises from Seryna's skin, something expensive and scented like the roses of Highgarden. Of which she is one, however the Vale preserved her in chill air for a time. "We will welcome you with open arms of course, cousin, and perhaps a good meal, or at least some Arbor wine. My brother spoils me with frequent deliveries." His whisper is met with a cryptic smile and a nod of her head, as if to imply that whatever words were exchanged are ones she will think on. Perhaps she considers it even now as she withdraws from the garden. "Good day, Lord Lucamore." With that and a swish of skirts in Arryn blue, she is off back into the streets and the crowds.
