Prince Aevander went to King's Landing to serve at the court.

Description

By any other standards, this young man would be blond, but among his Targaryen brethren, Aevander is virtually dark haired. Honey-colored locks, shot through with silver, fall in tousled curls that frame a youthful, oval face, grow a little long down the nape of his neck and occasionally fall in front of large, violet eyes. He has high, aristocratic cheekbones, a straight, comely nose and lips that are rather full for a man. He also tends to sport the kind of peach-fuzz facial hair that wants, very badly, to be a beard but is just never going to make it.

Aevander stands a lithe 5'10", neither especially tall nor particularly short. Like many of his family, his frame favors leanness over bulk, and he cuts a tidy if narrow figure. Perhaps as a means to make his hair appear lighter by contrast, he tends to favor dark colors and often wears a tunic, vest, trousers and boots all in black and all very finely made.

Background

The older brother of Daevon, Visenya and Cerys Targaryen, Aevander was the first among that lot to come under the critical scrutiny of their father and the neurotic affection of their mother. It was decided that Aevander should become a knight, not because his father had any grand aspirations for Aevander to take up the blade, but because being trained for knighthood was an excellent means for a lad to learn how to begin paying attention to the people and places around him. He spent his pagedom beneath one of his uncles, but when he became old enough to squire, he was sent to Highgarden to serve beneath Ser Harlon Tyrell.

Young Aevander wanted very much to please his parents and did his utmost to learn knightly ways and skills, though the sword and shield were never where his interests lay. Perhaps, if Aevander had been allowed to choose his own future, he would have chosen the Citadel or the Sept. Anywhere that would have left him time to pore over books and knowledge. He had a quiet love of the arts in general and a gift with the pen that he never dared share with his knight or his family as it was prone to manifest itself in stories and poems rather than anything especially useful. Aevander was never going to be a great warrior, but he made do well enough as a middling one. At eighteen, Ser Harlon awarded the boy his knighthood, just two years before the young and wayward Daevon would attain his own 'Ser' at the age of sixteen. Aevander returned to Dragonstone and to the cold reception of his father and the fretting and illnesses of his mother.

Aevander's parents were both skilled manipulators in their way, and it was in this that Aevander himself excelled. Some Targaryens carry the legacy of madness and others wear a cloak of greatness, but Aevander's gifts were more subtle and less apparent, if no less impressive if one knew how to look. He was adept at observing people, at understanding them. It was a skill his father approved of and wished to harness to further his own schemes and plans. Unfortunately, while Aevander had the skill, he didn't quite have the stomach for leading others to the path of ruin for the benefit of his family's name and status. He was one more in a long line of disappointments. But, in the end, Aevander's father found a use for him.

As a man who collected favors from other noble families as if they were coins, Aevander's father was especially pleased when he was able to orchestrate the betrothal of Cerys with Garvin Tyrell. Not only did it place one of his children a breath away from the Tyrell line of succession, but the union would also be viewed as a great favor extended to Garvin's father, as the boy was generally regarded as a hopeless disgrace by his family. But then Visenya decided to take matters into her own hands and muck up the whole thing, and with Visenya dead (or presumed so) it seemed none of his daughters were marrying Garvin! He had put up with his children's and nieces' and nephews' antics in Oldtown long enough, and he would not allow another such incident to occur. To this end, Aevander was dispatched to see to Targaryen interests in Oldtown by keeping his siblings and cousins out of (public) trouble and preserving the Targaryen name.

RP Hooks

People Person - Not in that Aevander likes going out and carousing, more in that he has a knack for intuiting people and their motivations. He could potentially make a handy arbiter, and he might not be opposed to digging up a little information. For the right sort of person and the right sort of price.

Closet Writer - Aevander can't quite resist writing all sorts of useless nonsense when nobody's around to see him. Short stories and poetry are his most common offenses, though it's possible he may also have the start of a novel concealed somewhere within his quarters.

Patron of the Arts - While he doesn't plan on 'fessing up to the fact that he makes any, himself, he does have a soft spot for the arts, in general. Music, dance, plays, painting, sculpture, tapestries… you name it. He probably enjoys it or at least knows what it is. If one needs a patron to fund an artistic project, they could do worse than to seek out Aevander.

Relationships

Family

Daevon

Daevon
Little Brother - Aevander's younger brother, Daevon has made himself something of a living legend. Aevander is caught between feeling proud of his younger sibling's accomplishments, concerned for the way said accomplishments overshadow the whole of his life and exasperated that a young man who has managed so many death-defying feats still hasn't learned to look before he leaps.

Cerys

Cerys
Little Sister - Aevander's little sister, he has only recently begun to suspect that her guileless ways and sweet charm are actually fueled by a complex delusion and a sprinkling of manipulative tendencies. She's his baby sister and he adores her, even if her antics here in Oldtown are part of the reason Aevander was sent there.

Visenya

Visenya
Other Little Sister - Well, there's one in every family, isn't there? Although Visenya does have a penchant for meddling and destructive temper tantrums, as her older brother, Aevander cares for Visenya and considers her as much his responsibility as Daevon and Cerys. He has no intention of leaving her to the wolves of her own making.

Aegon

Aegon
Squire - …How the heck did that happen?

Elionys

Elionys
Cousin - Aevander and Elionys have been writing letters to each other since they were both children, though they have only met in person a time or two. Aevander is quite pleased to have his pen pal here in Oldtown.

Ryzael

Ryzael
Cousin - For a man who fancies himself a schemer and spymaster, Aevander finds Ryzael about as delicate and subtle as the smell of sulfur.

Jaehaera

Jaehaera
Former Dragonlord - Jaehaera Targaryen has seen and done things Aevander will only ever read about. He greatly admires the woman for her experience and wit, and he rather envies her for her ability to get away with saying whatever she wants.

Aerys

Aerys
Cousin? - It's rather nice to have another Targaryen in town who can keep a level head and has an affable nature.

Everyone Else

Garvin

Garvin
Cerys's Visenya's Betrothed - Whichever sister Lord Pansy ends up with, Aevander means to make sure Garvin does not make a mockery of the marriage.

Jaremy

Jaremy
Strickland Heir - Aevander rather likes Jaremy. He admires the man's forthrightness and genuine personality, and brief quests they've been on together have been made more enjoyable for the company. None of this means he wants the man for a goodbrother, however.

Johanna

Johanna
Fine Company - Johanna Oakheart has been a pleasant conversationalist whose company Aevander enjoys. As of late, he has been obliged to step in to defend her and her brother against accusations made by his cousin.

Laurent

Laurent
Ser Thorn - Aevander hasn't yet decided if Ser Laurent Tyrell deserves his respect or only his amusement. Either way, he's finding he enjoys the company of this brusk, glowering fellow, both for his usefulness on a quest and the rather atrociously blunt statements that come out of his mouth.

Quillian

Quillian
The Blackrood - Ser Quillian can be a crass and a blunt man, but Aevander has not found him to be dishonorable. If you ignore the thing about the skull goblet, that is.

Riderch

Riderch
Brash Lordling - A strong warrior, an amusing drinking companion (if stories are to be believed) and an unexpected heir who has taken up the mantle without complaint, Riderch has a number of qualities which Aevander finds admirable. However, the fact that he invited a dear cousin into potential danger, intended or otherwise, rather reduces the prince's opinion of the Young Lord Blackwood. Aevander was not above using his station to make said displeasure very clear to Riderch.

Thadeus

Thadeus
Tully Heir - The "Bull Fish", Ser Thadeus has a reputation as a womanizer and a bit of a wastrel, so the fact that he seems intent on marrying Cerys (and she on marrying him) is a bit conflicting for Aevander. On the one hand, he is the heir to a Great House and thus a suitable match for a Targaryen lady. On the other, Aevander would prefer to see his baby sister attach herself to a man with a better record of keeping it in his pants.

Viggo

Viggo
Duelist - Well, not really, but this is mostly how Aevander recalls the other knight. Ser Viggo bested him with skill and honor. Probably. From what Aevander can piece together between periods of drunken blankness, it seems like he did.
