Description
This barmaid is comely indeed, with long black hair that falls down her back in a ponytail. Deep blue eyes sparkle with curiosity while her lips are most often curved into a charming smile. Her attire is surprisingly clean and tidy, a slightly off-white chemise below a dress of brownish colour, the bodice tightly bound to accentuate her comely curves and broad hips. Her stride is quite confident, as is her smile, suggesting she may be too aware of her good looks. The smell about her is clean with a hint of flowers - a strange contrast to the deliberately lax way she wears her chemise, mostly slipped over her left shoulder.
Background
Iris was born as the illegitimate child of a whore in Oldtown. She grew up in the brothel her mother worked at, which has left its mark on the young girl's psyche. First of all, her urge for cleanliness, almost an obsession, as she found the stench at the brothel at times hard to endure. Then her urge to make up stories when asked about her past. She will most certainly not tell the truth, and instead tell deliberate lies, to cover up her questionable descendance. Her wish to take up a respected job! Being a barmaid seems the best way to capitalize on her good looks, while staying at least a little within the boundaries of propriety.
At the age of 12 Iris ran away from the brothel, as she already suspected what her fate should be if she stayed there. She started work at the kitchens of several inns, and ended up at the Quill and Tankard three years ago. Here she seems content, the clientel is sort of agreeable, okay many teenage acolytes but she actually can handle those. Occasionally giving into temptation, aye, but never getting paid for it! And cleaning herself thoroughly afterwards! As if that could remove the stain of her heritage.
Her education hasn't been very thorough and focused on the deeper secrets of getting tips and preparing meals, carrying heavy mugs of ale.
Dancing and flirting are Iris's forte, she knows how to use her charms to get tips. During her time on the streets she picked up a little about how to wield a blade - her work in the kitchens also requires the swift handling of knives. It was in the kitchens that she picked up a little of the healing arts - at least treating some minor cuts, and preparing some teas of useful herbs, to soothe pain or even lower a fever.
Iris doesn't earn much, she is a barmaid after all, and may get tips here and there, alas she spends most of her money on the market for soap and unobtrusive perfumes. Hence her rather poor wealth.
